The Curse of Paddy O'Keenan
The Cascade Hotel Curse really took shape when an immigrant Irish
construction worker, an eccentric Non-Christian,
stood accused
of stealing some corned beef out of the developers',
Joseph Van Higgenbatens' (right) private downtown office.
A search of O'Keenan's' skid row rooming house room revealed druid
texts, a private journal,
some wicker chairs and allegedly the jewelry
of several murdered prostitutes.
He was hastily accused, tried and executed without proper representation.
Some local civic groups claim he was discriminated against and railroaded,
but officials insisted that he would be hanged locally "just as every Irish hooligan should"
